Fishing Lake Erie is always a good way to spend your day! When the weather is warm and the fish are biting, there’s no place else Captain Jim of Erie Angler Charters would rather be! Bring your group of six to join him for an amazing day of fishing for walleye, yellow perch or smallmouth bass on your next Lake Erie fishing trip!

Erie Angler Fishing Charters is located on the western Basin of beautiful Lake Erie, which is the walleye capital of the world. Captain Jim Mitchell has over 30 years of experience fishing Lake Erie and is fully licensed with a 25 ton near coastal masters license; he has the knowledge and expertise to put you on the fish better than anyone else in the area.

Whether you’re looking for drift fishing or trolling, Erie Angler is outfitted with everything you need for the full sport fishing experience. All bait and tackle (except soft craws for smallmouth) is provided on our trips. You will need to bring your valid Ohio fishing license with you, along with a hat, sunglasses, and camera.

Your group of six can climb aboard our 30 ft Baha 299 Fisherman. This clean and well-maintained vessel is fully equipped with top quality gear and features, including a stand-up enclosed head, two radios, fish finders, auto pilot, and two GPS. We are safety minded at Erie Angler Charters and provide PFDs (personal floatation devices), First-Aid equipment, and have a CPR-Trained Crew. The dock is wheelchair accessible dock and we do our very best to accommodate people with disabilities.

If you’re fishing for walleye, Lake Erie is without a doubt the best place to go! Erie Angler Charters is just a short boat ride from the famous reefs of Western Lake Erie, including Niagara, Crib, and Toussaint reefs where the walleye spawn. The walleye are biting from April to October, and we’ll go jig fishing, drifting, or casting to reel them in. We also have professional fish cleaning for you to take home fresh fish dinner!

Captain Jim also goes fishing for Yellow Perch in Lake Erie. If you’re looking to spend a great autumn day (perch fishing is usually best from August to October) join Erie Angler Charters – we’ll anchor over a school of yellow perch, and jig with several lines in the water with the perch’s favorite snack: an emerald shiner. This is a great trip for younger anglers: fishing for perch is fast paced, challenging, and a lot of fun. At the end of the day we’ll professionally prep your catch for you to take home.

Erie Angler Charters also targets smallmouth bass fishing, best in late summer and fall. We can typically find them along the rocky shores and reefs in the island area, and fish with soft craws or leeches (although we’ve found that pumpkin seed green tube jigs work as well). During May and June the smallmouth bass is catch-and-release only, although Captain Jim typically always does catch and release with this species to keep the fishery strong.

While we specialize in fishing charters, Erie Angler is also available for sunset cruises or any other boating excursions you would like to embark on.  Let us help customize the perfect Lake Erie trip for you, book your next Lake Erie fishing trip with Captain Jim and Erie Angler Charters today!

Our Walleye season begin in April, during pre-spawn.  Large numbers of Walleye move into the Western Basin to spawn when the water temperature is between 40 and 45 degrees.  The Walleye will stage in the area until the appropriate time, then lay their eggs on the rocky bottom.  Come jig fishing in April and early May, or try some drifting and casting if that is more to your liking.  The Walleye bite well from this time up until about the end of July, when the water temperature warms up and the bite drops off.  Starting in September and October, the Walleye will usually start to bite again.  When fishing for Walleye it is important to remember these patterns as well as state regulations; in order to keep a Walleye it must be at least 15 inches, and after May 1stthe limit is 6 fish per person.

On your Walleye charter, we will provide all the bait and tackle you need.  We are equipped to drift and cast or troll with planner boards and the hottest lures. We also have professional fish cleaning available.  Upon returning to the dock, your fish will be picked up at the boat and cleaned while you relax in the air conditioned lounge and restaurant until your fish are ready.

In Ohio from May 1stto June 29th, Smallmouth Bass are catch and release only.  After June 29th, in order to keep a Smallmouth Bass it must be at least 14 inches, and the limit is 5 per person.  In it our belief that trophy-sized Smallmouth Bass should be released after being caught, so that the presence of trophy “smallies” in Lake Erie will continue for years to come.
