South Coast Fishing Charters

South Coast Charters is a family operated fishing charter ran by Captain John Taylor in his hometown of Matagorda, Texas.

Captain John is a native Texan. He has many years of fishing experience and he knows these waters very well. Captain John loves sharing his passion of fishing with anyone who steps on his boat for a fun and awesome fishing experience on the Gulf of Mexico.

The boat you will be traveling to the fishing grounds in is a 23’ center console powered by a 300HP Evinrude engine. She can run in shallow water to get you and your guests in and out of the local bays. Sha has USCG approved safety gear as well as up to date fish finding technology. There is also a live well for fresh bait, power poles, and a wireless trolling motor. Captain John welcomes anglers of all skill level and children of all ages.

Rods, reels, and tackle will be supplied on your trip with South Coast Charters. South Coast Charters offers half day and full day inshore fishing trips using many different fishing techniques to your rods bending. You and your guests will need to get a valid Texas fishing license before your trip with Captain John. He offers ice and bottled water, but you can bring your own drinks as well as snacks.

Matagorda, Texas is a small town on the coast about 2 hours Southwest of Houston. It’s a fun town full of local shops and restaurants. Matagorda also has a beautiful public beach 5 minutes from the heart of the town. The Gulf waters of this area are teeming with fish and Captain John knows where all of the honey holes are to get your rods bending with monster fish. You can expect to go after King Mackerel, Mangrove snapper, Spotted Seatrout, Tarpon, Tripletail, Black Drum, Cobia, Jack Crevalle, Mahi Mahi, Redfish, and Sheepshead. After your trip Captain John will clean and fillet your fish for you to take home and enjoy.
