Jensen Beach Fishing Charters

Does this sound like the perfect fishing trip to you? Catch largemouth bass and monster snook in the morning, reds and trout at lunch and grouper in the afternoon.

Jensen Beach fishing charters can make this happen. Located at the intersection of the world-famous Indian River and the St. Lucie River, this area of Florida is a fisherman’s paradise. The St. Lucie River flows south and east and the St. Lucie Canal drains Lake Okeechobee. They combine with the Indian River to flow into the Atlantic Ocean at the St. Lucie Inlet.

Jensen Beach Freshwater Fishing

You do need to go upriver just a bit to find the right mix of freshwater and saltwater for largemouth. A bit further upriver and down the canals, bream and catfish lurk. Bass are voracious predators. The top artificial lures are spinnerbaits and plastic worms. White spinnerbaits cast around the spillways when the water is flowing just about guarantees you will catch something. The fish hang out in the water looking for minnows and shiners that get injured being swept over the spillway.

Bream are among the most friendly of fish, eagerly taking small spinnerbaits, worms and crickets. When the panfish start bedding, getting a limit with a cane pole and bait is almost too easy.

Jensen Beach Inshore Fishing

Speaking of spillways, they are tackle-busting snook hotspots when the water is flowing. “Anglers know what that means — snook all over the Indian River Lagoon waters around Fort Pierce hear a dinner bell ringing. Anglers there will use live bait like shiners, big jigs and swim baits, too, to hook massive snook feeding on bluegills and bass being swept over the spillway,” says Ed Killer in the Treasure Coast Palm newspaper.

Redfish love the shallow waters filled with oyster bars and rocks. They have plenty of both around Jensen Beach, which makes the redfish angling super hot at times. Gold spoons and shrimp-imitating jigs fished at the edge of the short creeks and points when the water is moving will pull them out. Reds are one of the three fish needed for an Inshore Grand Slam.

Number Two on the Inshore Grand slam is the speckled trout. With miles and miles of grass flats, Jensen Beach has trout to spare. Gator trout also cruise these waters. Top producers are Mirro-Lure crankbaits, shrimp-imitating jigs and live bait like fingerling mullet and menhaden.

Complete your Inshore Grand Slam with a flounder. You need to fish over sandy bottoms as these flatfish like to lay there and cover themselves with sand. The best place to find then is on the edge of dropoffs or points where the water comes rolling over. The flounder lay at the bottom, watching to see what the current brings their way. Cast shrimp jigs or live bait like bull minnows and shrimp for the best chance of bringing home a flounder.

For another inshore fishing thrill, check out the silver kings, or tarpon. The silver kings abound in Jensen Beach. Tarpon are among the most opportunistic feeders. If they think they can eat it, they will try. You can throw topwater and suspending lures, big bucktails, and live bait to connect you with one of these acrobats. Live bait best bets are pinfish, crabs and whole mullet. Tarpon have big mouths so big offerings are ideal.

Jensen Beach Offshore Fishing

If the weather is good enough to head into the blue waters offshore, Jensen Beach fishing charters can put you on plenty of fish. These waters abound with surface and reef fish.

With a truly huge dorsal fin, the sailfish is a preferred wall hanger. Sails are caught trolling squid rigs and dusters tipped with a ballyhoo or a cigar minnow.

When you start trolling these, you may catch a sail, a king mackerel, wahoo, marlin or tuna.

Also known as dorado and dolphin, these fish love surface structure. Jensen Beach fishing charters look for grass mats, buckets, wood pallets or anything else at the surface. Since mahi mahi swim in schools, your guide will keep one fish on the hook and in the water until everyone has fish or the school leaves.

Grouper is the name of the game for so many anglers. Jensen Beach has many natural and manmade reefs that are grouper magnets. Drop live or frozen baits down to the structure and hold on. Do the same for snapper. Be sure to ask your guide about the goliath grouper.
