Picturesque shoreline and natural wonders surround this quaint beach town. And, a short drive to St. Petersburg will punctuate your time on dry land with vibrant nightlife, top-rated dining options and craft breweries galore. There’s something for everyone.

Madeira Beach Inshore Fishing

If you’re looking for inshore action for a pint-sized angler-in-training or embarking on a quest for a record-breaking catch, then dropping a line in Boca Ciega Bay for the day is just what the doctor ordered. Hopping into a kayak is an exciting way to get into difficult-to-reach areas like grass flats, canals and mangrove habitats. If snook is what you’re after, casting a lure or live bait (think shrimp, crabs or mullet) near mangroves, under piers or docks can send your reel screaming. Snook charters are available in the early morning or evening when the tide is moving and this elusive catch is ready for food. Looking for a fight? Redfish can be found all throughout the bay. Depending on the size you’re looking for or frequency of bite, live or cut bait will yield a busy day reeling in reds and even a tarpon or two. Live shrimp and minnows in shallow water and cut finger mullet or crab attract big reds on the bottom. However, they aggressively go for artificial lures and flys as well. Plastic swim tails or grubs on jig heads are very effective for an exciting day. Your captain will look for baitfish and water flows out of flats and find them where they’re feeding. If you’re not getting bites in between 15 - 20 minutes, the charter captain will go ahead and move on. The Boca Ciega Bay is a great place to catch your fill of fillets with your pint-sized angler near land by piers, bridges and canals. With fresh or frozen shrimp, crab and mullet you’ll enjoy a full day of reeling in dinner-sized sheepshead, mackerel, drum, and trout that enjoy feeding opportunities in these areas.

Madeira Beach Offshore Fishing

Sport fishing off Madeira Beach in the Gulf of Mexico is an angler’s delight. The extensive artificial reef systems built off the coast provides ample habitats for several species of deep water fish. This translates into ample opportunities for anglers of every experience level to make a day of hooking into hungry, aggressive fish. Your charter will likely fill a live well with multiple species of baitfish, including pinfish, blue runners and grunts to ensure a long, diverse day of screaming reels. Well-baited grunts and runners are lively and attract all manner of lurkers during a nice drift. You can plan on luring delicious grouper from their hiding spaces in the reef before reeling them to the boat. Dropping and drifting over these reefs is great for expert and novice anglers because of the sheer number of species and methods. While live bait will likely grab you the largest on the boat, dropping weighted, cut squid, shrimp, crab and mullet baits are perfect for opportunistic species of snapper, sea bass, tripletail, and even hogfish. Trolling in the Gulf of Mexico is a voyage you’ll return to time and time again. Ballyhoo rigs racing through the crystal Gulf waters attract a host of pelagics including mahi, cobia, tuna, kingfish and amberjacks. When that bite takes, you better be ready. These deep water species are suckers for a fast meal and will fight you tooth and fin once they take the bait. When you book a charter out in these waters, experienced captains have no trouble putting you on fish and making sure you have a great time.
