The Striped Bass schooled up early in 50 feet of water by the bluffs on Lake Whitney. The shad were at 5 feet, and the striped bass were from 15 feet to bottom. The Stripers never broker the service chasing Shad. As the morning wore on the big school broke into smaller schools and moved towards the McCowen flats. By 10 am we had our boat’s limit of stripers, and the fish were in 20-30 feet of water just off the flats. We were using live 3″ – 4″ shad for bait.
